Mobile TV's Picture Improves

Will you pay money to watch TV on your phone? Big media companies like

Disney, wireless carriers like AT&T and software firms like Adobe Systems are all betting big on the notion. But MobiTV, a small, privately held firm based in Emeryville, Calif., is already cashing in.

MobiTV announced Wednesday that it has crossed the two-million subscriber mark, an impressive milestone in a market that barely exists. It took some seven years for the company to get off the ground and sign up its first million customers, which it announced last April. Scoring its second million took just 10 months. Chief Phillip Alvelda notes that the company is now one of the biggest distributors of television programming in the U.S., falling somewhere after the country's largest cable and satellite TV operators.

The bulk of MobiTV's customers pay about $10 per month to watch live streaming video on their cellphones. Read More.
